Madeleine Steel Travel Fellowship

The Madeleine Steel fellowship is an annual fellowship (£10,000) awarded on a competitive basis to doctors (trainees and consultants) and allied professionals (including nurses, clinical physiologists etc) working in congenital heart disease in the United Kingdom. The award is used to enable the holder to travel to a centre of excellence in North America to gain further experience, learn a new technique and to conduct research.

Candidates will be assessed on the overall quality of the program they have planned, new skills or research experience that will be gained, their career trajectory to date and the potential of this grant to further develop their career and to improve clinical practice in the UK.

The application window is open from Jan 1st until the first Monday (17:00 hrs) in May each year. Applications received after this deadline will not be considered. Applicants will be informed of the outcome before the end of July 2024.

Applicants should send details of their application (by e-mail) to the Scientific Secretary (contact details below) on a maximum of 2 A4 pages (Arial font 12). The application should include:

  • A description of the fellowship: its goals and how it could improve UK clinical practice.

  • The total amount of funding required and a breakdown of it will be spent.

  • A letter of support from the host supervisor at the north American centre.

  • A letter of support from your current UK clinical/research supervisor.

  • A copy of your CV.

Applicants should already be a current member of BCCA (verification checks will be carried out following submission).
